The Schools Parade
The schools parade was a key moment within the Navigating Through Time programme, bringing together pupils from six local primary schools who had taken part in a series of place-based workshops exploring heritage, environment and identity. Around 150 children gathered at Trevor Basin to take part in a collective parade and performance, using placards, drumming, movement and creative expression to share what they had learned and how they see the future of their communities.
The parade was designed not just as a celebratory event, but as a way of giving young people a visible and active role within the World Heritage Site. It placed their voices at the centre of the programme, allowing them to interpret heritage in their own way and connect past, present and future. By bringing together schools from across the four communities, it also reflected the wider aim of the project to strengthen connections between places and foster a shared sense of identity.
As a public, outdoor event within Trevor Basin, the parade created a powerful and engaging experience for both participants and visitors, demonstrating how education, creativity and heritage can come together to activate the landscape and inspire future generations.
