A new mural by artist and Cefn resident Carol Davies will be unveiled in Cefn on Sunday 28th September as part of the community-led activities for Navigating Through Time. 

Artist Charlie Hathaway will lead a clay-making workshop where participants create small clay houses inspired by the villages ‘ghost houses’ - places where buildings once stood in a homage to lost heritage. 

At the bottom of Doctor’s Steps you will find a willow and paper lion lantern symbolising the story of the ‘Cefn Mawr lion’ and Lloyd George’s visit. 

Artist Karl Smith will lead a hands- on workshop in Cefn Mawr, guiding participants to use charcoal to sketch the village’s historical features and forgotten landscapes.

Renowned sculptor and Cefn resident Simon O’Rourke will give a live chainsaw demonstration, showing how he transforms raw wood into striking artworks. Visitors can watch the creative process up close and see Cefn’s heritage expressed through large-scale sculpture.

Historian and local councillor Tyger Benbow-Jones has created a self-guided heritage walk through Cefn Mawr village, encouraging visitors to explore the village’s streets, views, and hidden heritage at their own pace.

Developed in 2024 by residency artist Emma-Jayne Holmes and historian Tyger Benbow-Jones to highlight the heritage in the labyrinth of footpaths that run vertically through the village.

Cefn Museum will be open as part of this special heritage event. They have an enormous selection of exhibits including artefacts and memorabilia, including a coracle!

Fiona Collins is a celebrated storyteller who specialises in Welsh folktales, legends, and community histories. 

At George Edwards Hall, Phil and Jo will run a lively circus skills workshop where families can try out juggling, balance, and other fun activities in a safe and welcoming environment.

Threads of Cefn, whilst a new addition to the village, is already much loved. It is a community charity shop that raises funds to support local projects.

The Ebenezer will have an exhibition on and be open as part of this event. The current exhibition is FIVEWAYS.

In addition to the historic significance of this building that is a must visit anyway, The Holly Bush will have live music in the afternoon for this community-led event. Serving bar snacks and a great pint!
