Continuing the heritage trail from Trevor, the temporary billboards will be sited along the towpaths sharing stories, and visually depicting local landmarks of heritage in Froncysyllte. Curated by Julie Williams and Keith Sinclair they will include the Boer War Memorial, St David’s Church, the history of the Lift Bridge and Limekilns to name but a few, with social histories including the late Bruce Barkley’s ‘In Light and Shade’ publication. Bruce Barkley was an artist-in-residence with the Wrexham Leader newspaper and local celebrity well known for his beautiful drawings of local landmarks, villages, towns and scenes of the waterways. Bruce and his family were from Froncysyllte, with a family tree dating back to the 1700s. The story and images are courtesy of June Smith, Angela Lawrenson and Hilary Edwards, Bruce’s daughters and niece.
